MY TEACHING

My teaching is basically based on what I learned from my study that I have had in Korea, France and Europe.

It is especially focused on strengthening actor's expression ability that s/he has as a form of "inheritance". These techniques are principally based on physical and imaginary exercises.

When I was in Europe, I attended several acting workshops based on strong physical exercises such as Grotowski technique. However, even though I agree much to his theory and his techniques, I don't want my actors or my students to be trained by Grotowski’s technics. Actors are not ascetics like the ones of Grotowski’s theatre; they are just actors.

Developing some techniques which can stimulate and help exteriorize the inside of the actors may be sufficient.
That's why my technique is simple and easy including turning around on somebody's calling, meeting and reacting to people passing by, making a sculpture using bodies, depicting the face of mother on the palm etc. I wrote two different books on actor training including about 200 various exercises.

I also like using songs for training exercise. In fact, songs have lots of emotions condensed like poems because they are already poems. Singing the feeling that the lyrics describe is one of my important methods of actor training.

By singing, first, actors can train their voice itself, especially strong voice and pronunciation. Second, they can train in singing techniques, and third songs are really good for the imagination. I think singing songs is one of the best ways to stimulate and awake emotions inherent inside us. Through this training, actors can develop techniques for expressing emotion.
