MY SELECTED WORKS

1. <They Are Still Running>

Performed in 2008 at a school with students, not yet produced commercially.

I really like this show.
It is based on the school life of students majoring in theatre.
To tell the truth, it is about introspection. It is true that we can become arrogant when we develop a good reputation. Even though it is not the case, from time to time, we need occasions to think about where we've been, where we are now and where we will be in the future.
I allowed the students to compose many scenes directly from their classes to illustrate the various parts of students theatre education that will eventually coalesce, revealing their school life. Music and song take core part in this combining work. I love musical because of this possibility.
I was proud of the audience enjoying much the production. I really want to produce it commercially. There is strong possibility to make it a great musical because the show can be composed of various fun and touching stories students experience everyday. Furthermore, lots of visual and audible elements can be exposed on the stage because it is the story of the students majoring in theatre. It could be really "theatrical."

2. <Love May Come Silently>

Performed first in 2009 and reproduced from time to time

I like this show.
I like it, first, because it is a love story. I love all kinds of love story; among family members, forbidden love or between man and woman. I think all the human activities can occur and enforced by the feelings of love. Without love, what can remain to us? Except in very rare cases, all the great human stories are closely related to love .
The second reason is that I tried it in a new way. I like new, experimenting. This is a banal story that could happen anywhere and anytime. If I approach it by usual methods, it may be banal as well. The characters of this play are simple, light and funny. I tried to enforce these characters instead of hide or eliminate them. For example, I introduced many scenes with mime, dance, etc. The audience was completely satisfied with the show. How I tried to? Click below.

SELECTED BOOK

<Making Theatre with 42 Questions>

Published by Somyung publishing company, November 10th, 2009.

This book has 3 parts; the first part has very short questions and answers about what the Theatre is, the second part is about how to make Theatre and the third is one of my musical scripts <Great Inheritance>.

What is the Theatre? It is a form of Arts. What is Arts? It is a personal expression which may have a certain value to share with others. However the value varies according to people, so a piece of Arts may have a different meaning for each person. The Theatre is "an Art form through which a certain idea about life is exposed through the acting of actors."

How to make the theatre? Of What is the theatre composed? Actors and director, the visual and the audio. I explain how to create and produce theatre, describing all about these elements, especially how to write script, how to act and how to direct.
I inserted a mind map at the start of each chapter to have the reader visualize the information. And I numbered explanations in sequence to facilitate the comprehension.

SELECTED PAPER

<Renaissance and Changes in the Theatre>

Published in <Drama Research 11>, Decembrer 15th 1998, Korean Drama Research Association.

This study is about Renaissance. What kind of changes happened after this period? I described 10 changes, with a focus on how the influence of the Renaissance altered human nature.

1. The creation and possession of arts became personal.
2. God as common denominator for all sorts of Arts disappeared.
3. Rules, principles and restrictions appeared.
4. With every day performances, the show became a kind of product.
5. Not for all but for some can approach the arts.
6. Arts became form of amusement.
7. People had to pay.
8. Methods and skills were developed to create an artistic work, but paradoxically, restricting artistic freedom.
9. A separation between those who create and those who appreciate appeared.
10. The function of catharsis weakened and the justification of existence weakened as well.
